A few weeks ago I came across a football (soccer) terminology called expected goal (xG), which measures the quality of a chance by calculating the likelihood that it will be scored from a particular position on the pitch during a particular phase of play. This value is based on several factors from before the shot was taken. I was fascinated by this idea that quantifies complex movement in sports. So I tried to recreate a simplified xG calculator based on two factors: angle to the goal and distance to the goal.
